Promise (söz), engagement and marriage proposal (kız isteme) ceremonies are days when two families come together and every detail is remembered. One of the most visible of those details is the chocolate on the table. A well-chosen presentation is served to guests and becomes a memory talked about for years. In this guide we explain, step by step, which kind of chocolate suits each occasion, how many pieces you need and when to place your order.
Proposal, promise and engagement: the differences
Kız isteme, the traditional marriage proposal visit, is usually made with a presentation that the groom's family brings to the bride's home. What matters here is a single, impressive tray; after it has been served, the tray stays in the bride's home. That is why a lasting, elegant tray is preferred.
Söz, the promise ceremony, is a smaller family gathering. A presentation tray or a box with flowers is usually enough.
The engagement is a larger celebration. There is a presentation on the table for serving, and every guest receives a personalised chocolate with the couple's names and date.
Presentation options
- Chocolate dates on an acrylic tray: The clear tray shows every detail and remains an elegant serving tray afterwards. Crystal Chocolate Dates Tray
- Copper tray presentation: The most impressive choice for traditional ceremonies, with an engraved copper tray, flower arrangement and ribbon. Chocolate Dates on a Copper Tray

- Gourmet chocolates on a cake stand: A design-object stand that stays in the home once the chocolates are gone. Gourmet Chocolates on a Seletti Cake Stand
- Classic madlen box: Milk and dark madlens in a box with fresh flowers; a timeless choice for any protocol. Classic Madlen Chocolate Box
How many chocolates do you need?
There is no fixed rule, but this approach helps with planning:
- Proposal and promise: A single presentation tray is usually enough. If a large family is gathering, adding a madlen box next to the tray makes serving easier.
- Engagement favours: Plan one personalised chocolate per guest and add a margin of about 10 percent. Once your guest list is final, choose the 50, 100 or 150-piece option that suits you.
- Engagement table: Apart from the favours handed to guests, a presentation tray on the table creates an elegant look.
Personalised design: what can be customised?
For engagement chocolates, your names and date are printed on the chocolate card. Card, ribbon and flower colours can be chosen to match your invitation and theme, and you can also use a monogram of your initials.
- Personalised Engagement Chocolates: madlens with your names and date, on an acrylic tray with fresh flowers.
- Personalised Orchid Engagement Chocolates: monogrammed madlens among white orchids.
When should you order?
Our products are handmade to order in our workshop. Ready-made products are usually shipped within 3, and at most 10, business days. For personalised products, the delivery date is agreed with you when the order is confirmed. To leave time for design approval, we recommend ordering at least two weeks before your engagement.
If you are in İstanbul, same-day delivery is also available for ready-made products: orders placed by 1 pm are delivered the same day.
How to store the chocolates until the ceremony
Keep the chocolates in a cool, dry place away from sunlight, between 15 and 18 °C. Do not refrigerate them; humidity causes white marks on the surface of the chocolate. For presentations with fresh flowers, it is best to schedule delivery close to the ceremony.
Frequently asked questions
Who brings the kız isteme chocolate?
Traditionally the groom's family brings it, although this varies from family to family and region to region.
Can chocolate dates be chosen instead of chocolates?
Yes. Filled chocolate dates are increasingly popular for promise, engagement and proposal presentations as a treat that is both traditional and modern.
Can I see the design before ordering?
For personalised products, colours and card design are decided together with you.
